Our civilization (or our Era) on planet Earth has a history that we presume to be of 7-8.000 years old. We know that before this Age there have been other/s civilization/s because we have found remains of such civilization/s different from ours. These remains are either different kinds of constructions and monuments, either different kinds of cultural or religious memories in many regions of the planet, as we will see further. There are several theories about that (some very credible and some very far-fetched). Official science of course tend either to ignore the fact either to falsify or mystificate it.
Since the aube of our civilization and still today, our social organization was based on a principal factor, common in all parts of the world, and that has been the exploitation of men from other men. The consequence is that a minority of men had (and still has) the power over the rest of the people, over the majority. This factor determinated in each part of our planet a specific social organization, with specific economical, cultural and religious rules and structures. In the beginning those rules and structures were limp and among them existed believings and practices in contradiction with the main stream, (remains probably from an unknown past). As technologies were progressing and interaction between different nations were becoming more substantial, these rules and structures in every society were becoming more firm and rigid from one part and on the other hand the contradicting believings and practices were disappearing or remained just as a form, so they would become innocuous.
The common target of these rules was always the preservation of that power of the minority over the rest of the people. The main way to achieve that target was (and still is) fear and repression, repression and fear. Using these (and other lower vibration) feelings of human nature was found to be the more efficient way to keep humans in a condition of permanent slavery and obedience. In this way little by little was going creating a social system of values not in favour of the growth of human kind, but in favour of the interests of the minority that had the power in society. And this power needed people to be always in search for the survival, always stressed and in fear, so that matters as personal growth, as sublimation of instincts and spiritual path would be considered as unnecessary luxury, if not as something contrary of the human nature. This process would not be successful if there was not existing the decisive contribution of the so called religions.
Religions, since the beginning were becoming the official right hand of who had the power in society. They were doing all the dirty work of manipulation, intellectual "castration" and neutralization of all tendencies of humans for spiritual growth, sublimation and self-realisation. From one part they were emptying old religious practices and believings from their substance and from their revolutionary potential. On the other hand they were creating restrictions and repression of all human practices and tendencies that might lead humans to remember their nature, to discover their higher inner self, to inter-take any interior path of awakeness and consciousness (all that we intend as real religion).
On the contrary of what happened in pre-historical or historical periods, in the aube of this Era seamed to be present in humans' collective subconscious real religious tendencies. We can foresee in old pre-Sanskrit and Sanskrit texts as well as in all old religious texts (Bible, Vedas, etc.) descriptions of real religious teachings. Those teachings in the course of the years were of-course completely inverted and falsified from the so called "religions" and in this way religion's meaning changed completely in humans' conscious, so much that today have taken the opposite meaning.
A primary religious teaching that we find in all old cultures of the beginning of our Civilization, as well in many old religious texts, is the transformation of (animal) sex and sexuality in something spiritual, in something higher that lead humans to experiment love, to be drawn in love, to defeat Ego in their lives, to learn and be able to get in a higher state of being, to meet God inside them. Those teachings (as well as the practices that are used in this path of liberation of human sexuality) were altered from the official religions, till the point to be completely inverted. The main concept of living and enjoying sexuality with spirituality and love, so that the union of the two lovers takes them to a higher level of consciousness, to inner self and to celibacy in the meaning of communion with the God inside, became (from the so called religions) renunciation of sexuality and designation of celibacy as the only way to achieve God's blessing and a place in paradise in the future. Since many thousands years, and still now, the common feeling of "religious" people is that there is a primary sin in sexuality and that sexuality has to be renounced in order to gain paradise. And who is practising this renunciation (monks, gurus, etc.) in the eyes of simple people become "saints", because it is deeply rooted in their subconscious that renunciation of sex leads to sainthood and to God. This is the result of thousands of years of manipulation of people by all official religions (Buddhist, Hindu, Islamist, Christian, etc.). If we look to the origin of each of them though, if we look among all the teachings of their founders, we'll not find any trace of that kind of repression of sexuality. But from the moment that these religious teachings were transforming to official "religions", they had to conform with the power. And the power of course does not need religious people, because religious and loving people are free people. And free people would not be obedient to power, would not accept to be exploited, would look rather for self-realization, for love and eternal life instead of hatred and death. And hatred, fear of death and death is what human society (and this Civilization) offers to people during all those thousands of years, so the order and the power may be maintained.
During all those thousands of years though, there have existed not only the initial teachings (that we mentioned), but also several other religious currents and movements that have put the transcendence of human sexuality to love and divine consciousness as a primary goal that (the same as prayer, introspection and meditation) leads to self-realization and godhood. But let's take things from the beginning.
As we mentioned above, in the aube of our Era there were all around the planet several religious teachings about elevation of human consciousness and personal growth through meditation as well as through sublimation of (animal kind) instincts and pimarly through elevation of sexuality. It seams that all those teachings in very different and very distant parts of our planet have the same origin, because all of them in a way or another are using the same pattern, with some secondary differences, that do not change the substance. And not only. Also the symbols used are the same, the practices of initiation are almost the same, even many words used have the same root (1). It's difficult to imagine that in that period (5-6.000 years B.C.) were any means of communication between people from so distant places as central America and south Asia for example (Mayan and Hindu civilizations). That's why the only valid explanation may be given from the theory that there existed a higher civilization before ours, which has left as heritage all those teachings to the isolated communities that survived after the end of it. Nevertheless this theory is sustained also from remains of constructions all over the world, that date 20-30.000 years ago.
Here is important to underline the fact that all those teachings (and of course the knowledge behind them) were mostly object of secrecy, of mystery and were reserved for a minority that used them as a mean for maintaining the power over the rest of the people. We may see it clearly in all the most ancient Mesopotamian (Sumerian, Assyrian, Babylonian) and Egyptian civilizations, were we know that knowledge was a privilege of the King and the cast below him (today called priests and his court). This secrecy and mysticity (in greek Μυστικό means something secret) gave later the term of "Mystic" to whom is interested to these teachings, "Mysticism" to the current or movement that is interested in these teachings and "Mysteries" to all practices concerning these teachings.
